My wife and I know each other from working as Staff Members at the same Boy Scout Camp. Her family worked there as well; as did mine.
Camping, and the outdoors, has a very special place to us. Years later, and a kid, our engagement with nature is not as serious as it used to be. It should be.
Couples tend to gravitate toward the classics. Dinner and a movie, a gift, etc. Try not to be the average couple. Getting back to nature is a powerful force.
For us, the great outdoors is what brought us together. It has long endured, but it is easy to forget.
Instead of heading out to that expensive dinner, the latest movie, or flowers that will die in a few days, go outside. Make memories. Take some pictures.
Who is gonna remember movie night in ten years, but you will remember that trip to the mountains, or that canoe trip at the local lake, or just a quiet night around the campfire.
Or, mix the old and new, take a picnic on a canoe trip. Land in a new place you have not made it to before and have your picnic.
Hike up a mountain for your picnic.
Just do something new. The outdoors is invigorating. You won’t regret it.
Get outside.
